Talk about the ultimate holiday sandwich! We started our celebration of Christmas according to the calendar used in the USA by skyping gramma and grampa. I came home from working with four wonderful first graders and grabbed a bite to eat. Then at 9 pm our time (9 am in Texas), we got on skype with my parents and nephew.
We started out singing various Christmas carols and hymns while grampa played on his ukulele. Then we opened the gifts that they sent us and they opened the ones we sent to them. My hubby and kids also performed a couple of traditional Russian songs while dancing around the tree that hubby placed in the dead center of our living room. That was for technical reasons (in full view of the webcam). After the festivities were over, we said goodbye and watched a movie with the kids.
Now the fun continues. We are having 20+ people at our house tomorrow evening until morning for the New Years. Each family that is coming is required to prepare any type of presentation (poetry, song, dance, or something else). The kids are going to get their gifts from Father Frost and the adults are going to do the white elephant gift exchange. Then there is the fireworks and cookie bake with the kids. It should be a fun filled night!
After a few days of recup and hitting all the winter parks (with attractions), we will be getting ready for Russian Christmas - January 7th. We plan to have a Jesus party then with cake and gifts the kids have prepared for HIS birthday. I'll have to blog about these events after they happen, but in the meantime, it is time to bake cookies, clean house, prepare the hot meal and wassail!
