When we are tempted to ask God, "Why?"...

I noticed that it has been a while since my last post. Just for the record, I'm going to blame it on a wedding. Not my own, but a dear friend of mine tied the knot to a wonderful Christian man this past Saturday and many of us were pleasantly busy helping with the preparations. But what does a wedding have to do with the title of this post? Allow me to elaborate....

I have known Olga for many years and have had the pleasure of watching her spiritual growth. From the first women's conference we had back in 1997 that she attended to seeing her being a co-leader of the women's Bible study and ministry, the Lord has done a beautiful work in her life (and isn't finished yet!). She is a single mom who has raised a young man who is now in college and has a desire to walk rightly with God.

Over the past couple of years, Olga has been seeking the Lord for his direction in many aspects of her life - including job choice. You see, she started in the theater - an actress. It is one of her passions in life, but it doesn't pay much and so she took on other jobs to help support her and her son. But that passion was still in her and through prayer and patience, the Lord led her to quit her job last summer and start working in the theater again. We (the ladies in the church) had prayed along with her and knew she was doing what the Lord was leading her to do.

Oh, but here is the twist! Once she quit her job and started working back in the theater, the person who hired her revealed that they weren't ready to give her a part/role and really didn't have anything for her to do. By law, they had already hired her and were thus obligated to pay her, but the salary was less than half of what she had just walked away from. Did God really lead her? Yes. The temptation to ask why was ever present.


About that time, Yura was really busy with the city-wide evangelism project and was recruiting helpers for the call center as well as delivering requested books among other things that needed to get done. Olga felt that now that she had a lot of time, she was more than willing to help in any way possible. The Lord showed himself faithful and continued to provide for her and her son's needs in many ways.

One of the churches in our city had missed a training session and so Yura held a session at our place to help those volunteers. Olga came to help. At the meeting, there were three people - one man and two young ladies. After the session, they all left together. Olga helped a lot with the outreach and every week waited for the director to call and say when they were ready to start on a play he wanted her to be in. Christmas came and went. New Years came and went. Then we started working on our women's conference for February. Olga was one of the main speakers.


The day after the conference, Olga started working "full time" - meaning there were rehearsals daily as their premier will be end of April. Six months had passed since she had quit her job to work in the theater. Also about that time, she got engaged to said man who was at the training session at our place. By the time they got things figured out, the wedding was three weeks away!

So here I am, feeling like I've been through a wonderful flurry of busy-ness, but in awe of how the Lord works His mysterious ways out through His children's lives! I am so excited for Dima and Olga, but I am going to miss my sister greatly. We will pray for them as they start their lives together and serve in Dima's church. We will keep tabs through Olga's son and the occasional phone call.

The best part? It's all temporary. We will get to spend eternity together with Jesus! That is the wonderful promise and hope we have in Jesus. Do you know that kind of hope and promise? So when I am tempted to ask God, "Why?", I just need to hold on for the ride and watch Him work!
